APRIL 18 Speaker: Jennifer Panko, RVT/CCRP, OVC Companion Animal Hospital This lecture includes a brief overview of common canine and feline neurologic conditions and their presentations. Questions to ask clients and key points to be included in case histories are highlighted. Triage and stabilization techniques for neurologic patients are outlined for each case. A basic neurologic examination for technicians is demonstrated with video and PowerPoint. In-hospital care tips and physical rehabilitation recommendations are also discussed and demonstrated. Jennifer Panko is a Registered Veterinary Technician (Seneca 2005) and Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (University of Tennessee 2006) at the OVC Companion Animal Hospital located at the Hill’s Pet Nutrition Primary Healthcare Centre at the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph. Her clinical experience includes a variety of work in companion animal practice, equine practice, and wildlife rehabilitation. Jennifer developed her tool box of rehabilitation skills and love for neurology at the Mississauga-Oakville Veterinary Emergency Hospital and Referral Group where she coordinated the rehabilitation service and managed the neurology and MRI services. Jenn’s professional interests include teaching, care of the senior pet and pets having special needs, nutrition, weight management programs, behaviour, radiology, dentistry, and canine and feline rehabilitation. She is currently pursuing designation as a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner through the International Veterinary Association of Pain Management and Certification in Canine Osteoarthritis Case Management. She is a member of the Canadian Animal Assistance Team and recently completed a spay neuter project in Carmacks, Yukon. She is also a volunteer therapeutic riding instructor at Sunrise Therapeutic Riding and Learning Centre in Puslinch, Ontario, and enjoys riding her horse “Poppy”. |
