Dr. Jason Donohoe began his university career in 1990 at the University of Guelph, graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1996. Jason spent the following three years in a private, large animal practice in rural Ontario before finding his true calling – emergency medicine. Since 1999 Jason has been using his skills as an emergency veterinarian at busy emergency and referral hospitals in the Toronto area. Jason also has a special interest in service dogs and has had the privilege of working with the Toronto Police Dog Service, the Ontario Provincial Police K9 Unit and the Canadian military to provide first aid and emergency training to their dedicated dog handlers. He is currently working with a team of highly qualified specialists, experienced emergency doctors and trained support staff, to provide state of the art veterinary care at the TVEH.

Dr. Colleen Mitchell graduated from OVC in 1986. She spent 18 years in small animal practice in southern Ontario. During this time, she developed a special interest in radiology and ultrasound which prompted her to enter the diagnostic imaging residency program at OVC in 2004. Dr. Mitchell became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiologists in 2007 and completed her thesis (MRI findings in spinal ataxia) and DVSc degree in 2009. Dr. Mitchell joined Morningside Animal Clinic (later TVEH) in 2008 as the first board certified radiologist in private practice in the GTA. Dr. Mitchell performs all inhouse ultrasounds and reviews all imaging studies done at TVEH (radiographs, CT and off-site MRI). Dr. Mitchell also accepts radiographic studies from referring veterinarians by electronic transfer or courier for evaluation.

Dr. Carl Porter was born in London, England, and immigrated to Canada in 1992. He completed a BSc in Zoology at the University of Bristol, U.K. in 1992. Dr. Porter studied veterinary medicine at the University of Bristol and at the University of Guelph’s Ontario Veterinary College, and was awarded his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine by the Ontario Veterinary College in 1995. After a year spent in small animal practice in Bolton, Connecticut, he returned to the OVC for a small animal medicine and surgery internship (1996-1997). He completed a residency in small animal surgery at the University of Saskatchewan’s Western College of Veterinary Medicine and attained an MVSc in Small Animal Surgery in 2000. Dr. Porter achieved Diplomate status (specialty board certification) with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2001. From 2000–2003 Dr. Porter spent three years as Staff Surgeon at the MSPCA’s Rowley Memorial Animal Hospital, a multispecialty referral hospital in Western Massachusetts where he was involved with the hospital’s extensive internship program in addition to clinical surgical duties. He returned to Ontario to join the Morningside Animal Clinic in 2003 and in 2009 opened the Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital – a state of the art Multispecialty and Emergency Hospital located in eastern Toronto – with his 3 partners. Dr. Porter’s areas of special interest include trauma surgery, reconstructive surgery and thoracic surgery. He and his wife – a Veterinary Ophthalmologist – live in Claremont, Ontario with their three children. Dr. Porter enjoys mountain biking, kayaking, skiing and ball hockey on his driveway.
