The Technician in Ophthalmology: Truly an Important Role

Speaker: Chantale Pinard, DVM, MSc Dip. ACVO, University of Guelph, Department of Clinical Sciences

In this presentation, the technician’s role in the ocular exam will be explored. The technician can also play an important role in admitting, triaging and treating of ocular emergencies. Examples of ocular emergencies and their “dos and don’ts” will be discussed at the end of the presentation.

Dr. Chantale Pinard graduated from OVC in 1993 and went on to four years of mixed, equine and small animal private practice. In 1997 she did her small animal medicine and surgery internship at OVC, and then in 1998 she did her emergency medicine internship. She completed her residency in comparative ophthalmology and Master’s degree from 1999 to 2002. From 2002 to 2007 Dr. Pinard held the position of Clinical Instructor at Faculté de médicine vétérinaire, St-Hyacinthe, QC, and from 2007 until the present time, she is an Assistant Professor at OVC. She has published in peer-reviewed papers, and is the author of book chapters. Dr. Pinard enjoys her hobby, gardening.
